Independent, homegrown, and mountain-approved. Strike up a conversation with anyone on the lift, and this is likely how they would describe Flylow. This grassroots brand was started by two ski buddies who wanted ski pants and jackets that would hold up to the rigors of backcountry and big mountain skiing, but still had a style all its own. Now on its 10th year of production, Flylow’s gear is truly speaking for itself. Their attention to detail is second to none. It’s a well-rounded line with something for everyone, plus colors and styles that will make even the trendiest of riders happy.
The Higgins Coat is like my security blanket, I grab it when I don’t know what is around the next bend. The fabric is soft to the touch, yet durable when brushing up against rocks if you’re climbing up a scramble. This jacket is a true must-have and is as comfortable on the skin track as it is on the chairlift.
Flylow’s Chemical Pants have details that have made them a cult classic, and the fit is unparalleled. These pants also use a three-layer semi-stretchable fabric that contributes to their amazing range of motion. Bottom line: the durability, wide range of motion, and great fit on the Chemical pants make them a must-have.
The Higgins Coat is made from a completely waterproof, three-layer fabric that has 12% spandex, providing four-way stretch. Fully-taped seams and waterproof zippers mean you stay completely dry. The six pockets on the Higgins Coat are wisely placed both inside and out. Your quintessential hand pockets have a velvety lining with wide-toothed YKK zippers to make them easy to open and close. The chest pocket is perfect for a cell phone or frequently needed items. It also features internal organization with skin pouches and a wallet carrier. Other details worth noting on this ski jacket are the helmet-compatible hood, underarm venting, the universal powder skirt, and its packability.
The fully waterproof Chemical Pant also has a three-layer stretch fabric, and strong Cordura fabric reinforcement at the knees that is highly durable. There are four vents, on either side of the knees, to let you perfectly control your temperature on the skin track by allowing for cross ventilation or just picking what side you want cooled off. This must-have uninsulated shell pant has three waterproof pockets and is ready to put on top of your favorite baselayer.
Fit. It is the holy grail for everything from ski boots to bike frames. A proper fit is essential when spending hours in the backcountry or on the skin track. It’s important even walking around the resort where, let’s be honest, you know you’re gonna have to walk up or down a flight of stairs, no matter what, when you want to go to the bathroom.
No more fighting with your ski jacket – with the Higgins, it feels as if it’s not even there. The touch of stretch is amazing when you’re working hard on the skin track. And the articulated elbows also aid in the Higgins’ disappearing act.
From the gusseted crotch to an adjustable waist, the Chemical Pants are loaded with features that give you a wide range of motion. And the stretch fabric is the icing on the cake.
Flylow makes durable gear and is also a great company to be supporting. They focus on community, quality, responsibility, and a sincere love of the outdoors. Their sustainability standards set them apart in the industry, and they hope to inspire others to follow their lead.
