Mountain Bike Skills Factory: Trailside Bike Park

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As bike season kicks into high gear here in Park City we ride higher and higher to escape the heat. Sometimes we get so myopic for the Mid Mountain trail or the Crest trail, that we forget about some of the other gems we have in Park City.

One of our crown jewels in Park City is the recently completed, and opened Trailside Bike Park. Operated by Basin Recreation and built by Progressive Trail Designs in early 2011, it is a testament to Park City’s commitment towards a diversified bike experience. Trailside offers a wide range of trails that are perfect for learning and improving your skills. One of the best ways to experience Trailside Bike Park is with a Jans Guided Mountain Bike Tour, they will teach you the skills and how to progress your skills in a safe environment. Trailside also has much more development planned, with increased expansion, bigger lines, and more ways than ever before to get you riding and learning.

Recently we took a few HD Ghost cameras by Drift Innovation, out to Trailside. We wanted to get some unique angles with the cameras, as well as show you just how much fun it is out there.  We used a homemade pole mount (ski pole, cut in half, and duct taped a mini tripod to the end- works amazing), the roll bar mount and the classic helmet mount.  By getting creative you can take basic mounts, and get extraordinary results. Take a look at the clips we got.

When I bike, and it doesn’t matter where I am riding, I always take my Dakine Nomad pack. 100oz of water for those long dusty rides, full tool compartment for breakdowns, room for a warm layer and of course enough room for a camera. This pack has stood the test of time and can double as a great hiking pack as well.

I also never leave home without my Smith Pivlock V2 Max sunnies.  These things are hands down the most versatile and best bike glasses out there.  With three different lenses to choose from you will always have the perfect lens to match the light, as well as never getting fogged up due to their adjustable nose piece.  This is a must have out at Trailside at dusk because it goes from full sunshine to shadows in a matter of minutes.
