Patagonia Capilene fabric is used to make some of the best and well-known technical baselayers in the industry. The synthetic polyester weave provides the foundation for any layering system and is adaptable to myriad sports. All of Patagonia’s Capilene baselayers are bluesign approved, meaning Patagonia follows a set of guidelines meant to reduce waste and boost sustainability of their products. Regardless of weight, the Capilene product line also features a contemporary and consistent fit, and makes good use of anti-odor technologies to fight off odors accumulated after multiple days of skiing or outdoor activity.

Jans has been carrying Patagonia Capilene products since they were brought to the outdoor market. And while other brand’s baselayers are competitive, Capilene baselayers have a special spot in our hearts. Our Experts have been using these technical baselayers for years and for many of us, they are the only ones we reach for. So what is Patagonia Capilene and what do all the different weights mean?

Capilene Air

The newest addition to Patagonia's Capilene lineup, Capilene Air baselayers are made with a blend of recycled polyester and merino wool. The combination of natural wool and recycled materials give Capilene Air baselayers a soft next-to-skin feel, natural stretch, and anti-odor properties. Capilene Air products maintain warmth when wet and have a seamless construction to eliminate discomfort from chafing.

Capilene Cool

Being a newer addition to the Capilene collection, Capilene Cool products are extremely versatile and can be worn for everything from everyday wear to mountain biking and even fly fishing. Like all Capilene products, Cool fabrics are bluesign approved and feature recycled materials. Many also boast miDori bioSoft fabric softener for a plush, comfortable feel.

Capilene Midweight

If you’re not sure where your next adventure might take you, reach for the Capilene Midweight baselayer. These are Patagonia’s most versatile baselayers, since they are ideal for mild-to-cold temperatures. They stretch, wick moisture, and are quick drying and highly compressible for easy packing. You can easily take them anywhere. The men’s Capilene Midweight bottoms make a great first layer for skiing, hiking, or climbing all winter.

Capilene Thermal Weight

Your coldest days out on the hill call for Patagonia’s Capilene Thermal baselayers. Still soft and stretchy, these baselayers feature Polartec Power Grid material for exceptional breathability and thermal properties. They also feature HeiQ Fresh technology to help keep the fabric free of odor after multiple days of wear.
