Arcteryx Stinger Bibs Review

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The well-deserving winner of Powder Magazine’s Best Outerwear of 2013 Award, the Arcteryx Stinger Bibs are made with highly technical materials, a comfortable design, and thoughtful details.

New and Improved GORE-TEX Pro
Arcteryx and GORE-TEX work closely to develop high performance materials for outerwear such as the Arcteryx Stinger Bibs. GORE-TEX Pro, new and improved for fall 2013, offers greater durability and increased breathability for better longevity and a broader comfort range. The tightly woven nylon material of the waterproof N80p-X GORE-TEX Pro used in the Stinger Bibs offers abrasion resistance with a somewhat rigid feel, but it sure can withstand abuse. Hardwearing Keprotec reinforcements protect the high wear ankle area from ski edges, crampons, rock, and ice, while tough Cordura powder cuffs with gripper elastic keep the snow out.

Arc’teryx Design Elements
Featuring e3D (ergonomic three dimensional) patterning and an Expedition fit, the Arcteryx Stinger Bibs are designed to feel comfortable and non-restricting, while accommodating baselayers for cold conditions. A gender specific shape, forward leaning articulation in the knees and seat, and a crotch gusset all help to provide comfortable freedom of movement, while the extended waist prevents cold drafts from reaching the low back. Quick adjust suspenders help hold the Stingers up, and let you customize these ski bibs for your torso height.

Arcteryx Attention to Details
The Arcteryx Stinger Bibs would have been great ski pants with just their excellent materials and superior design, but the thoughtful details put into these ski bibs really makes them stand out from the rest. Three quarter length two way side zips give you adjustable ventilation, allowing you to easily release heat while you’re hiking. The thigh pockets feature volume pleats so that they lay flat when empty but are able to hold bulky items, and the chest pockets offer secure storage for small items. Watertight zippers keep snow from seeping in, and a hidden RECCO reflector helps avalanche rescue workers find you in case you ever get caught in a slide.
